Bringing Light to Iguatu: Supporting Children in Brazil

This June, in partnership with Eyes of a Child org. I am traveling to Iguatu, Brazil, a vibrant yet underserved community of approximately 98,000 people. With a Human Development Index (HDI) of 0.677, Iguatu is classified as a region of medium development, but it continues to face significant socioeconomic challenges. Many families struggle with low per capita income, limited access to education, and inadequate healthcare resources. Tragically, the region also has a high infant mortality rate of 11.12 deaths per 1,000 live births, highlighting the urgent need for support and intervention.

During this trip, I will be focusing on initiatives that directly impact the lives of children, including:

• Educational Support: Providing school supplies, books, and learning materials to help children succeed in their studies. I’ll also be assisting with tutoring and creative workshops to inspire a love for learning and empower them to break the cycle of poverty.

• Health and Nutrition: Partnering with local organizations to distribute essential food items and hygiene supplies, ensuring kids have the foundation they need to grow and thrive.

• Recreational Activities: Organizing sports, arts, and play-based activities to bring joy, build confidence, and foster a sense of community among the children.

• Empowerment and Mentorship: Sharing stories, skills, and encouragement to help children dream big and believe in their potential to create a better future.

This journey is about more than just providing resources—it’s about building connections, spreading hope, and showing these children that they are valued and supported. Every smile, every moment of learning, and every act of kindness has the power to create lasting change in a community that faces so many challenges.
